About Ed
Ed Baskerville is a software designer and cellist living and working in San Francisco.

On the software side, he is currently developing several application programs for Mac OS X, to be announced and released on this site. Additionally, he is available for part-time/contract work as a software engineer, web designer, and technical writer.

As a cellist, he is actively looking for classical chamber music groups and orchestras to play with, as well as interesting projects in other musical genres. He is also available for pay gigs, including but not limited to studio work, theater work, church services, and weddings. More information about his current musical activities can be found here.

Software Development Experience
Ed has been writing computer software for more than a decade. In 2004, he received his Bachelor in Science and Engineering (Computer Science) from the University of Michigan, summa cum laude. He has done prototyping work for Kinetic Books, written technical documentation for Apple Computer, and implemented computational models for Mercedes Pascual at the University of Michigan Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

Ed has just released XgridLite, which enables Apple's Xgrid distributed computing solution in the non-server version of Mac OS X Tiger. He will soon release a preview version of LilyPad, a Mac OS X editor and previewer for the LilyPond music layout system.

Music Experience
Ed has been playing the cello even longer than he has been writing software. While at the University of Michigan, he studied with Anthony Elliott and played in chamber music groups through the School of Music. He also served as principal cellist of the Campus Symphony Orchestra, and, as winner of the orchestra's concerto competition, gave a performance of the first movement of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 1. Other past teachers include David Tonkonogui and Richard Aaron. He now studies privately with Jean-Michel Fonteneau.

He is currently a member of the San Francisco Punk Rock Orchestra, and is beginning collaborations with a number of other San Francisco musicians in and out of the classical music world. This summer, he will tour New England with the Tricoastal Arts Project.
